The chargEV configuration consists of Settings and Filters. Settings are fundamental and do not change very often, that’s why they have been added to the iOS Settings app.

It is highly recommended to initially review and adapt the Settings to make sure chargEV finds stations suitable for your car and your individual preferences.

Filters are a great help in everyday use as they allow to limit the group of pins shown according to your temporary situation – what you need right now: destination chargers, HPC chargers, and so on. That’s why they are prominently placed directly in chargEV.

Settings

chargEV works best when it’s configured to your car’s properties and your personal preferences. Review and adapt the available options in the iOS Settings.app - chargEV:

Compatible Connectors

Activate the connectors your car can use and disable those you cannot use. Doing so makes sure chargEV only shows stations your car can be charged at and does not show those you cannot use anyway. In recent cars this will almost always be Type 2 and CCS.

Tesla Supercharger

Most Superchargers can only be used by Tesla cars. Tesla Supercharger v3 are now listed in chargEV and due to tech reasons are treated as any other CCS-capable charging station on the map. Note: There is no special pin colour or any other means of differentiation available.

In case you can not use Tesla Superchargers you should disable the setting "Show Tesla Supercharger" in the Settings:

  1. Using the chargEV menu, go to the Settings.
  2. In the iOS settings now being opened, scroll down to the entry "Show Tesla Superchargers" and disable it.

For fans only: chargEV now also includes planned supercharger locations. When shown on the map, they have a red pin (as they are not working (yet)). To show, disable the “Now Open” filter. Makes sense, huh?

Data Sources

In chargEV 3 data sources can be configured, that means you can select which ones you want to use. This includes community registries such as goingelectric.de ("GE"), best for DE, AT and CH) and OpenChargeMap ("OCM", best for other regions). With an active "chargEV Plus" subscription you can also benefit from operator data such as availability, station information, power levels and much more. Charging station operator information can be added to the map and detail pages by activating the "chargEV" data source.

The "chargEV" data source will be activated automatically when getting either of the "chargEV Plus" subscriptions.

You can activate all data sources, however using the "chargEV" data source in combination with either GE or OCM will give you the best experience. Just play around and check what works best for you.

Filters

Filters are a great way to adapt the scope of stations shown on the map to your needs in a given moment: On a road trip, you are typically only interested in DC or HPC chargers. When looking for a parking / charging spot while visiting a theater or do some shopping, those DC and HPC chargers is probably not what you want.

Filters are accessible in the chargEV menu in the top right corner of the map for easy access and adaption.

Power Class

  • AC/DC is the normal mode which shows all stations (which have your configured connectors)
  • AC shows slower destination chargers only (typically Type 2, Schuko)
  • DC shows fast chargers only (CHAdeMO, CCS and Tesla Supercharger, if configured)

Using the power class slider, you can further refine the scope of pins shown to only those which have at least your configured power class.

These filters refer to the connectors of charging stations, not to the station itself. This means that e.g. when using the AC filter, chargEV will still show triple chargers which have an AC connector. HPCs and and other stations which are CHAdeMO- or CCS-only will not be shown.

Other filters relate to opening hours, free charging or network-relation (with chargEV Plus). The information these filters rely on are provided by the community registries. chargEV uses and provides this data "as is" and can not guarantee this information is correct or up to date.

Chargecards

All data referring to charge cards as well as compatibility information is provided by goingelectric.de. chargEV uses and displays this information "as is" and does not assume any liability for correctness or accuracy.

chargEV displays compatibility information for all stations which are listed in the goingelectric.de directory.

In the charging station detail view the metadata block on top displays a line which states how many of your chargecards are available with the station, if any. Further down a section has been introduced called "My compatible chargecards":

This section lists all your chargecards which are compatible with the given station. In case you have not configured any chargecards or none of your configured ones can be used at the station, chargEV shows "No compatible chargecard configured".

To configure your chargecards simply tap on the "My compatible chargecards" section. The configuration view shows which ones you have already configured and allows to add new ones from a list. The list also shows which chargecards are available – maybe helpful as you get an idea which chargecard to get next. Tap on "Edit" to access the list of all chargecards known to goingelectric.de.

Previous versions of chargEV contained a charge card compatibility filter which aimed at limiting the scope of shown stations to those stations which would be compatible with your configured chargecards. This filter was too restrictive and prone to error. As most stations now also offer direct payment methods, the filter was removed.
