We no longer charge our own session fee

As of August 21, no session fee appears in ChargEV FleX at around 92 percent of German locations with a valid tariff — wherever the operator does not charge a fixed fee per session. If the operator charges its own session fee, we show it unchanged and without a markup.
What changed — and what did not
Exactly one line is gone: our own session fee. We have not touched the price per kilowatt-hour.
We still have costs per charging session. We just no longer allocate them to each individual session — we treat them as part of the running costs of the service as a whole.
Dropping the fee shows up most on small charging sessions: over a handful of kilowatt-hours, a modest fixed amount quickly turns into a substantial surcharge per kilowatt-hour.
The operators’ own fees
Some operators build their tariff differently: a lower price per kilowatt-hour, and a fixed amount per charging session in return. We can neither drop that fee nor fold it into the price per kilowatt-hour. It belongs to the tariff and has to stay visible when prices are compared.
A look at our German tariff data as of August 21, 2026: 3,978 of 50,652 locations charge such a fee — 7.9 percent. These locations also tend to have lower energy prices: the median is €0.412/kWh, compared with €0.550/kWh at locations without a session fee. Including the session fee, a 10 kWh charging session at 86 percent of these locations still costs less in total than the same session at the median energy price for locations without a session fee.
So an operator’s session fee is usually just a different tariff structure. That is why we show both separately instead of netting them out. That way the comparison stays possible before charging.
And whether it stays this way
We are running the model this way now and watching how it works out across real charging sessions. If we change something, we will announce it beforehand and explain it using the figures — as openly as today.
The short version
- No session fee of our own. ChargEV FleX no longer adds a fee when a charging session starts.
- At around 92 percent of German locations with a valid tariff, no session fee appears at all.
- Operator fees unchanged. If the operator charges a fee per session, we pass it through unchanged.
- Energy price unchanged. The change affects only our own session fee.
- The full price is visible before charging. The energy price and any session fee are shown separately, so tariffs remain easy to compare.
- Still no account, subscription or base fee.
What we need now
Real-world experience. If you are charging in the next few days anyway, give ChargEV FleX a try. Did charging work? Was the price clear? Was there anything that worked well, surprised you, or was confusing?
That feedback helps us more than any calculation on paper.
